“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
Together we talked about Matthew 5:14-16 and how Jesus saves us for a purpose. He asks us to shine our light (his love) in the world so others are drawn to him.
Based on the reading, we created collages to remind ourselves to shine like a brightly lit town on a hill.
Cardstock in many colors
Zip lock bags
For small children cut color cardstock into basic geometric shapes that can be used to represent, hill, sun, buildings, etc.
Use black cardstock for the background. Colored cardstock is used for image of city and light shining down. A variety of shapes can be used so each city is different.
Children glue shapes onto black background to create a city and decorate with markers.
